The Anambra state chapter of the Organized Labour joined their counterparts across the country to observe the National day of mobilization, sensitization and mourning of the plight of Nigerian workers on issues surrounding the new national minimum wage.

The exercise which took place at Aroma junction Awka, was well attended by workers and top labour officials.

The workers were dressed in black attire depicting that they were mourning the plight of workers in the country.

Addressing the gathering, the National President of Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, Comrade Chris Ani who explained that the essence of the crusade was to end anti people policy of the government and impunity of governors and to drive home the fact that the national minimum wage of thirty thousand naira is no more negotiable.

Comrade Ani who lamented the ill treatment meted out to workers in the country, stated that workers are the life wire of the country, stressing that labour issues are human right issues that needed immediate attention.

He regretted that politicians and those in leadership positions especially in government, receive bloated income while workers take home do not take them beyond the next bus stand.

The Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress Anambra state Council, Comrade Jerry Nnubia urged the workers to stick to what they have agreed on during the rally as it is their welfare that is at stake.

Comrade Nnubia said that the union will not stop until the needful is done, advising the workers to disseminate the information in their various offices for maximum compliance.

The chairperson Nigeria Union of Teachers Women Committee, Anambra state, Mrs. Francisca Okoye urged government at all level to consider the plight of the workers and harken to the call for the thirty thousand naira minimum wage.
