Over fifty million naira worth of food stuff and farm inputs have been distributed to farmers in flood ravaged areas by the IFAD-VCDP to
cushion the effect of the recent flood disaster  in their areas.
The event which took place at the Umueri General Hospital, one of the holding centers in the State, drew beneficiaries from Ayamelum,
Anambra East and West Local government areas.


Distributing the items to the beneficiaries,  the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr.  Afam Mbanefo
said that the state government already has a rice nursery farm in Umueri for dry season farming immediately the flood recedes.
Mr.  Mbanefo who announced that the relief materials came from the National office of IFAD-VCDP, because of series of appeals  to their office, assured that they are still expecting more from other intervention programmes,  Agencies and Stakeholders.
He assured that Governor Willie Obiano is very passionate about their plights.
The State Programme Coordinator of  IFAD-VCDP, Mr.  Nnamdi Agwuncha announced that every rice or cassava farmer will be supported with farm inputs for one hectare.
The Traditional ruler of Umueri,  Igwe Ben Emeka,  appealed for the establishment of bowfa damns to collect the flood when it overflows its banks .
He urged his subjects to always insure their farms  have where to fall back on when such natural disasters occur.
Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Chief Raph Chigbata of Otu Udo Mmiata Rice Farmers Association and  Mrs Theresa Obi thanked the IFAD-VCDP for coming to their aid.


They said the gesture has rekindled their hope, and appealed to other affluent individuals to come to their aid.
