The Nigerian electorate has been enjoined to participate actively in the six days voters verification exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The National Coordinator of the Willie Obiano Support Group, Chief Jude Emecheta, gave this clarion call in a statement in Awka.

Chief Emecheta explained that during the exercise which would last from the sixth to the twelfth of this month, the Voters Register would also be displayed at all polling centers across the country for voters with permanent cards to ascertain if their names are contained in the Register.

He cautioned against apathy towards the exercise by eligible voters, pointing out that such negative attitude is an impediment to the growth of democracy and good governance in modern societies.

The National coordinator of the Willie Obiano Support Group particularly appealed to voters in the Southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria, to participate actively in the verification exercise in order
to avoid self induced disenfranchisement in the forthcoming general polls.

Chief Emecheta regretted that the Southeast has the lowest number of registered voters among the six geopolitical zones of the country, pointing out that inadequate political consciousness and nonchalant attitude are partly the reasons why Ndigbo are marginalized in the affairs of the country.
