The federal Government has been urged to commence and complete work onthe second Niger Bridge which has consistently been on past budgets of the nation, in order to give people of the South East a sense of belonging.
This was contained in a communiqué Issued at the end of November Congress of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council held last week.
The communiqué was signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi and Secretary, Comrade Emma Udeagha.
The Congress commended the Federal Government for completing work on the Oba- Arondizuogu Federal Road but urged it to pay attention to other roads across the county particularly the Enugu- Onitsha and Enugu- Port-Harcourt Federal Roads which are in deplorable states, to enhance commercial and vehicular movement within the zone .
The Congress also regretted the menace of potholes on most roads across the sate and urged the state Government to commence work on these roads to make for unhindered movement across the state.
It noted that Anambra state was known for its record in the area of security of lives and property but regretted the resurgence of criminal activities in some parts of the state, particularly in
Onitsha and other areas and called on security agencies to ensure that lives and property of the people are protected in all nook and crannies of the state.
Congress equally regretted the recent spate of mindless killings and loss of lives of innocent citizens particularly in the Northern part of the country and urged the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen security arrangements across the country in order to guarantee the lives and property of the citizens.
It Commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for releasing the timetable and guidelines for the forthcoming general elections, thus increasing their state of preparedness and advised all political parties to play by the rules, avoid hate speech, thurgery and violence during the campaigns and elections in order to guarantee successful elections and engender continued peace and unity of the country.
