Chief Ben Nwazojie Law Auditorium of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam Campus, was filled to capacity during the Maiden Edition of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Memorial lecture series.

The event also attracted the Wife of the Ikemba Nnewi, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, State Deputy Governor Dr Nkem Okeke, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, former State Deputy Deputy Governor Dame Virgy Etiaba, other Government functionaries and traditional rulers, among others.

The lecture was part of activities lined up to mark the birthday of the late Ikemba Nnewi, who was born in 1933 and died in 2011.

Speaking during the event the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Greg Nwakoby noted that the lecture which is the first in its series was to lay a background for subsequent lectures for the future.

He added that the epoch making event is well deserved, recalling that Ojukwu lived, worked and laboured for all Nigerians in general and Ndi Igbo in particular.

In a speech a guest lecturer, Chief Uche Ezechukwu, affirmed that the late icon was a man who had sacrificed much to bring succor to people who were hunted in a country they had called their own.

Dwelling on the theme of the lecture “Between Force of Reason and Reason for Force legacy of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu,” a guest lecturer, Professor Chidi Odinkalu highlighted and illustrated some areas in which Ojukwu’s life catalyzed and left deep imprint in many areas of leadership, government institutions, advocacy and public policy doctrine.

On her part, the Wife of the late Ikemba Nnewi Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, appreciated the efforts of the State government and the university authorities for organizing such indelible memorial lecture stating that APGA is one of the legacies that her late husband left and should not be destroyed.

The event featured a one Minute Silence for the deceased, and cutting of the birthday cake.
