The Torch of Unity for the 2018 National Sports Festival has arrived the State.
Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke and members of the State Executive Council as well as other political appointees were on ground to receive the torch on behalf of Governor Willie Obiano at the Government House, Awka.
The Delegation from the Federal Ministry of Sports arrived the State to present the torch which is a symbol of Unity.
Receiving the torch, Deputy Governor Okeke assured that Anambra State will fully participate in the games, expressing the hope that Anambra contingents will compete and bring back gold.
The Deputy Governor welcomed the federal delegation to the State and wished them a fruitful stay.
Speaking on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Sports, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Osaro Aiyedan expressed hope of landmark victory for every competitor, and appreciated the State government for standing by to receive the torch.
Presenting the torch earlier, Mrs. Jane Owoh said the event was flagged off by President Mohammadu Buhari in Abuja on the first October, this year, and explained that the torch has been moving round the States of the federation ever since.
The Torch was later handed over to the Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Mr. Tony Oli, by the Deputy Governor who in turn handed it back to the Federal Ministry of Sports delegation.
Recall that the National Sports Festival will kick off next month.
