The International community is observing today as Kindness Day. It is celebrated annually on the thirteenth of every November, during which participants attempt to make the world a better place by celebrating and promoting good deeds and pledging acts of kindness, either as individuals or organizations.
Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo who sampled people’s opinions on the celebration is reports that Kindness is expressed through goodness and charitable behaviour, mild disposition, pleasantries, tenderness and concern for others.
It is known as a virtue and recognized as a value in many culture and religion.
World Kindness Day was first launched in 1998 by The World Kindness Movement, an organization formed during the 1997 Tokyo conference of like-minded kindness organizations from around the world.
Presently there exists over twenty-eighth nations involved in the World Kindness Movement which is not affiliated with any religion or political movement with the sole aim of creating a world of kindness by inspiring individuals and nations towards greater kindness.
Speaking on the import of the event, a Pastor with the National Holy-Ghost Church of Christ Ajali in Orumba North Local Government Area, Onyeka Michael said that the event is worth celebrating as it is in line with God’s injunction which recommends kindness as one of the criteria for inheriting His kingdom.
On her part, an Educationist, Miss Joy Chukwudolue, who described kindness as an act of showing care and giving a helping hand to others, opined that people should make kindness a habit in order to enthrone a better society.
A woman activist, Lady Mary Enukeme encouraged people not to mind the beneficiary’s attitude when helping, reminding them that God will reward them in due course.
For an Administrator and Food Scientist, Prince Mbanefo Oranye kindness rarely exists in today’s society, as people and even churches are no longer interested in humanitarian services, but only after selfish and material gains, listing love and empathy as motivators to kindness.
