The state government has approved a training workshop for journalists in the state aimed at strengthening their capacity for efficient service delivery.

 

The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba announced this during a courtesy call on him by the Vice President zone C of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ.

Commissioner Adinuba who said that Governor Willie Obiano takes human capital development seriously, assured that it would be a continuous exercise.

 

Assuring of the state government’s support to the proposed NUJ endowment fund for families of departed colleagues, Commissioner Adinuba described Governor Obiano as the only Governor in recent years in the country under whose leadership no journalist has been harassed nor any of their reports contested by government.

 

On the recent peaceful NUJ delegate conference at Abeokute where loosers accepted defeat and congratulated the winners, Commission Adinuba called on other associations, politicians, states and the country in general to learn from the NUJ.

 

Earlier in his speech, the NUJ Vice President zone C, PrincePetrus Obi said they are in the state as part of their familiarization tour describing the visit as the first of its kind since assumption of office.

 

Unveiling their programs for the zone, Prince Obi listed welfare of members, trainings, establishment of endowment fund for families of departed colleagues; strengthen of the profession and fighting the challenge of quackery as some of their major programmes.

 

Commending the relationship between the state government and the state council of NUJ, Prince Obi charged journalists to maintain integrity and ethics of the profession in the discharge of their duties.

In a vote of thanks, the Secretary of the zone, Comrade Kenneth Oforma who described Governor Willie Obiano as the most media friendly Governor who is seriously working to touch the lives of the people stated categorically that no other state can overtake Anambra state.

 

Among the Vice President’s entourage were the state chairman of NUJ, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi and the state Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Udeagha among others.
