Nigerians have been urged to support the drive to tackle rape and other harmful practices against women and children.
Speaking at a forum in Awka, the state Coordinator Rule of Law and Anti Corruption Programme, ROLAC, Mrs Josephine Onah said there should be collective efforts towards enhancing good governance in the country by contributing to strengthening the rule of law, curbing corruption, reforming the criminal justice system and increasing access to justice for women, children and people with disabilities.
Mrs Onah called on the people to always provide useful information to relevant agencies that would enable them take prompt action against those who undermine the rule of law and promotion of criminal justice in the country.
She urged raped victims and their families to always report to security agencies to ensure that culprits don’t evade the hands of the law.
Mrs Onah explained that the ongoing project is aimed at among other things, supporting the implementation of the Nigerian criminal, justice, reform agenda and enhancement of citizens, civic and public engagement in criminal justice, sector reforms and the fight against corruption.
Among those present at the forum were Justice Peter Obiora, Barrister Rose Okeke, Professor Ogugua Ikpeze of FIDA, Controller of Prisons, Mr Emmanuel Nwakeze as well as Mrs Nneka Umezulu and Barrister Juliet Amasiatu of the ABS.
