The Anambra State Government has again warned against illegal activities of some individuals and groups who have continued to extort money from the people especially in Markets and streets.
A release endorsed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C-Don Adinuba, warned such people to desist
forthwith maintaining that the State government’s ban on collection of levies of any form especially wheel barrow, pitchers, petty traders, obstacle, land, container, and barrow tolls, is still in force.
The statement which reassured the State citizenry of the commitment of the Obiano administration to improving their living standards recalled how it introduced an economic stimulus package to lessen the economic burden on the people saying that cart pushers often refers to as wheel barrow men, were among the first set of the most vulnerable members of the society, to be exempted from paying not only taxes but all kinds of revenue to the government.
According to the statement, government has authorized security agencies in the State especially the Nigeria Police, Department of
State Service, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra the OCHA Brigade, to arrest those who have been making live more difficult for the people through illegal collection of levies.
The statement reassured that the State government is committed to creating a conducive environment for business transactions.
