The state government has restated its resolve to  support young artists especially sculptors to make the state a reference point in artworks.

Governor Willie Obiano stated this during the Abstract Exhibition and Competition 2018 organized by the state government through the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy,  and Ministry of
Artwork, Culture and Tourism   at Professor  Kenneth Dike E-library Awka .


Governor Obiano represented by the state Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Mr. Bonaventure Enemali, said the administration would continue to support the youths in the state and harness  their talents to showcase  to the world.

On her part, the Commissioner for Artwork, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Sally Mbanefo who  explained  that the competition was aimed at
encouraging the young sculptors to put in more efforts in their field of endeavour, reemphasized the commitment of the Obiano government to remodeling the state’s Arts Sector to make it the envy of other states
in the federation.

Also speaking ,the Commissioner for Environment, Beautification and Ecology, Mr Mike Okonkwo, commended the young sculptors on their respective work of art displayed during  the competition, but
regretted that male sculptors dominated in the exercise and encouraged the female folk not to shy away from such an event as the Obiano government is for all.

In a remark, the Chairman Panel of Judges at the event, Professor Nwanna Ezekwe while describing sculpting as one of the means of
engaging the youths, appreciated the state government for initiating the event saying that arts and environment are inseparable.

During the event, five young sculptors including Messrs Collins Asiegbu, Nnaemeka Nwike, Chukwuma Mmaduka, Moses Njoku, and Emebo Chukwuago respectively emerged first, second, third, fourth, and fifth winners in the artwork competition as they smiled home with cash prizes and certificates.

Expressing joy for coming first in the competition, Mr. Collins Asiegbu, described art as an expression of life, and thanked the state government for giving them the opportunity to express themselves through the work of art, calling for more of such opportunity for young talents to showcase themselves.
