The International Community is observing today as a day for the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

It aimed at raising awareness on the continued increase in gender based violence in the society.
Speaking on the significance of the day, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Re-orientation, Mrs Michelle Onugbolu who extolled the declaration of the day by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993, as part of efforts to check violence against women maintained that women are the most vulnerable in the society,  especially  at  home.
Contributing Monsignor Jerome Mmadueke of Awka Catholic Diocese stated that the nature of women is very vital and called on couples to always tolerate and accommodate the opinions of each other.

For the President, Mothers Union in the Anglican Diocese of Awka, Mrs Marther Ibezim, God created women to be help mates calling for peace and Unity amongst couples.
