The state government says it will continue to improve the health sector for quality healthcare delivery, as the citizenry’s health remain Paramount in its agenda.
The State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke stated this during a visit to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka to confirm the arrival of equipment in the hospital’s oxygen manufacturing centre.
Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo was there and reports that the Deputy Governor was also there to inspect the pace of work at a Mother and Child Referral Centre being constructed by Chevron in the hospital as part of its community development efforts.
Confirming the equipments at the Oxygen Plant House which according to him cost the state government a huge amount of money, Deputy Governor Okeke said the Obiano led administration will continue to invest in the welfare and health of the people of the state.
Describing both projects as one of their kinds in the country, Dr. Okeke expressed hope that when completed, the issue of loss of lives due to lack of oxygen would be a thing of the past in the state’s hospitals, while there would be enough space for pregnant women’s safe delivery in Amaku hospital.
Describing maternal and child healthcare as a challenge the world over, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike said the mother and child referral centre when completed will help in reducing maternal and child mortality to the barest minimum in the state.
In an interview, the Contractor handling the Mother and Child Referral Centre project, Architect Arinze Nnamdi assured that the centre which is a seven months project will be completed and handed over to the state government by March next year.
