Attitudinal change has been advocated as the bedrock for national cohesion and enthronement of lasting peace in the country.

This was part of presentations at the Thirty-ninth Supreme Council Convention of Knights of Saint Mulumba at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Awka.

Declaring the Convention open, Governor Willie Obiano, who was represented by his Principal Secretary, Sir Willie Nwokoye, said that Anambra state has enjoyed relative peace and stability since the inception of the current administration, noting that the state has been widely adjudged as the safest and most secured in West and Central Africa.

Governor Obiano urged the participants to promote peace and harmonious co-existence among themselves, as a model for a better human society.

Commenting on the convention, the Supreme Knight, Brother Diamond Ovueraye, said they chose to reflect on the Christian spirituality, and proffer a way forward to living an exemplary life of Saint Mulumba.

Earlier in a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Reverend Doctor Hilary Okeke, said that peace which is beyond morality is a distinct form of spirituality, and described God as a master of peace unto which an ideal Christian must look  for the practical lessons of peaceful human existence.

Speaking on the theme of the convention, “Deepening Christian Spirituality for Peace: Trends, Prospects and Challenges,” the Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Reverend Professor Godfrey Onah, opined that it would not be possible to build a peaceful world if steps were not taken to achieve economic and social development, and providing access to justice for all, as well as building effective, accountable and equitable standards in the affairs of the church and the nation at large.

Some of the traditional rulers who are also members of the Knight of Saint mulumba, including the traditional ruler of Ekwulobia, Igwe Chukwukadibia Onyeneke and his Azigbo counterpart, Igwe Christopher Umeariba as well as the Traditional ruler of Nike in Enugu State, Igwe Julius Nnaji, pointed out that Christ is the Prince of Peace and as such, Christians must come together and anchor their lives on him in order to end wars and societal conflicts.

The order of the Knights of Saint Mulumba, KSM, was established in Nigeria on June fourteenth nineteen fifty-three, by the Late Reverend Father Abraham Anselm Ojefua.
