European Union and United Nation International Children Emergency Fund, EU/UNICEF, in collaboration with Anambra State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASSA, have organized a three day WASH Clinic in twenty wards in Aguata Council Area to review the progress
and challenges as well as proffer solutions to problems in the implementation of portable water supply projects, achieving Open Defecation Free ODF and sanitation sector reform programmes to enhance their sustainability across Aguata LGA.

The programme had in attendance representatives from two hundred and twenty four villages in Aguata, WASH representatives and other stakeholders

Speaking to ABS shortly after the event, the Programme Manager, RUWASSA, Mr. Victor Ezekwo represented by Mrs. Chioma Ezeh said that the essence of the programme was to get the support of all the communities in Aguata council area, identify their successes and failures in ODF, advising the people of the area to continue to strive to achieve ODF status in the local government for a healthier environment for themselves and state at large.

The State WASH Consultant, Mr. Clement Chigbo maintained that portable water supply and ODF in Aguata should be restored and transformed through the joint efforts of the communities, and charged them to always maintain their borehole and other water facilities to increase their life span.

Also Speaking, The Zonal Coordinator, Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, Engineer Akpoke Douglas, State Coordinator, TCF, Mr. Okoloagwu Chimaobi and Center Innovation Data and Advance Water Sanitation, Mrs. Brownia Johnson Eko observed that poor information management, review of action plan, registration of WASH COM., maintenance of water facilities among others adversely affect ODF and water supply in the area and called for improvement.

The WASH Coordinator, Aguata, Local Government Area, Mr. Akwobi Peter who explained that WASH Clinic was started since 2013 to improve water supply and sanitation sector across the state by 2018, but regretted that the plans did not meet the target time stating that the essence of the programme is to reaffirm the activities of WASH Clinic, review journey so far and map out the way forward in Aguata LGA, and canvassed for more awareness creation to improve ODF and hygiene in the state.

On their parts, some of the participants, including Mr. Chukwuka Emmanuel Ezeh and Mrs. Pauline Ezenwankwo attested to the impacts of UNICEF WASH in their lives and communities, noting that they have benefited a lot from UNICEF, and pledge to eradicating contribute towards ODF totally in Aguata.
