Christmas is a yearly event in the Christendom and the season to commemorate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It is the most joyous season in the lives of Christians throughout the world. Most people use this period to settle problems in the families, kindred and towns. It is also a make peace and reconcile with one another. More so, many Christian faithful organize prayer meetings and conduct evangelism, crusades etcetera. Christmas season is also a season of exchange of gifts.
However, people have different mindsets concerning Christmas. Some people have adopted the season as a time to get rich quick and also a period to hike prices of petroleum products, and other commodities in the market. Some people also see it as a season of consumption of free drinks and getting drunk. Hence, many breweries have stockpiled large quantity of drinks for consumption within this short period of time. It is regrettable that this period, many people seem to forget how they laboured to make their hard earned money.
It is equally unfortunate that many will return to the city bankrupt, and have to start all over, having spent everything they have, for just two weeks event in the name of celebrating Christmas. Perhaps, this category of people would not remember to support their local churches for projects or for evangelism, let alone to assist the indigent ones for their academic pursuit in their domains.
The youth are not left out. Most of them engaged or are likely to engage in one crime or the other to achieve their evil desires, just for Christmas. However, in so doing, they might be apprehended, implying that they will eventually celebrate the yuletide in the custody of security agencies. In the same vein, ladies need to be reminded of the dangers of this season, if not properly planned and celebrated. The parents, on their own parts, should be on red alert. They should monitor the friends their children keep, especially this season, because, for people with devilish motive, this season is for destruction. Their activities must be checkmated so that the little girls among them do not fall victims of these desperate citizens that are bent on ruining their future to celebrate Christmas. Please parents, you need extra work to do this season.
Additionally, road users should watch it. The roads are becoming very busy now. So, drivers, both commercial and private, pedestrians and other road users must be extra careful while on the roads now, as most people would be drunk. Commercial drivers should, in their usual ways of being reckless on the roads just to meet up with their desired trips, thereby endanger the lives of the innocent passengers, should rethink because life has no duplicate. Equally, all traffic management agencies and other security agencies are to synergize to take the bull by the horn this season, to help reduce road accidents on the roads this season.
We must all appreciate, in strong terms, the efforts of the Anambra State Government, under the watch of Willie Obiano, in his magnanimity in directing immediate maintenance of roads across the state. This benevolent act of the Governor is to enable Ndi Anambra, those that would return, and those residing in the State, to have a hitch free Christmas and New Year celebrations. Thank you, our Amiable Governor for this show of love.
