The third and special Christmas edition of the Anambra State Walk for Life was concluded today in Awka, amidst vibes and high spirits.
The over ten kilometer walk which took off from Amawbia, through Eke Awka, to refill points at Amenyi, down to Finotel junction, up to Government House, and came to an exhaustive stop at Alex Ekwueme Square, attracted participants from government, sports and social circles.
The special Christmas walk, which was accompanied by ogene music, was tagged “turn fat into fit.”
On hand was the Anambra Traffic Management Agency, ATMA, to prevent traffic glitches, as well as men of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA, brigade, to ensure orderliness and adequate waste disposal.
The Chairman, Anambra Sports Development Commission, Chief Tony Oli, the organizer of the walk, said the programme was in line with the health advocacy philosophy of Governor Willie Obiano, and noted that the walk goes beyond health imperative.
The President of Ohaneze, Anambra State, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, who also took part in the walk, spoke of the benefits to both the body and the mind.
Also involved in the exercise is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Nze Uche Nworah, who said the walk-out was a productive adventure that heralds a healthy body and mind-fit for Christmas season.
Seventy year old, Chief Tony Nwazojie, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue, also part of the walk, commended the state government for instituting the programme, which he said, has been of immense benefit to him.
On her part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Mrs. Kate Edozie, said even though the itinerary of the walk had looked scary, the end point was fun and fulfilling.
An Anambra citizen from the diaspora, Mr. Chuks Emelife, said he felt enriched by the outing, extending commendations to the organizers especially for the timing.
Also part of the walk were the Member representing Onitsha South Two constituency at the State House of Assembly, Mrs. Beverly Ikpeazu, APGA State legal adviser, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Indigenous Medicine and Herbal Practices, Doctor Ifeanyichukwu Ibezim, Senior Special Assistant to Wife of the Governor on Special Duties, Mrs. Amaka Ezike, amongst other government functionaries.
