The need for Wealthy individuals in the state to always assist government in community infrastructural and human capital development has been stressed.
The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, made the call during the 2018 Ogidi-Onitsha free Healthcare and Welfare outreach organized by Lilyford foundation at Ogidi Town Hall and Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Onitsha respectively.
Deputy Governor Okeke said though the Obiano led administration is proactive at ensuring an improved standard of living of the citizenry, the rich in the society needs to contribute their quota to Community development .
Dr. Okeke commended Ikpeze family for initiating such an idea which he compared with what other illustrious sons and daughters of the state do, and called for more of such interventions.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Mrs. Uju Ifejilika, disclosed that the gesture is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the indigent persons in the areas and immortalizing their late parents who she said lived all their lives in charity, assuring that the family of ten children will continue to touch lives through the Nongovernmental organization.
One of the sons of the late Clifford Ikpeze, Chief Emeka Ikpeze, said such is their little way of sustaining peace and unity amongst the community members.
Also speaking the Traditional Rulers of both communities, Igwe Alfred Achebe of Onitsha, and that of Ogidi, Igwe Alex Uzodinma Onyido, appreciated the family for positively touching lives in the areas, describing such gesture as the best way to give back to the society.
Some of the beneficiaries including Mrs. Agnes Okafor, and Mr. Eugene Odugwa, thanked the benefactors for the free medical care and gifts, and prayed God to reward them.
The beneficiaries from the two communities received free diagnosis and treatment, and well as bag of rice each from the benefactors.
