Enugwu-Ukwu community has released a statement announcing the cancellation of the 2018 Umunri Colloquium originally scheduled to hold today, Friday, December 28, 2018.

A statement signed by Chief Frank Nwokike, Secretary of Enugwu-Ukwu Igwe’s cabinet on behalf of Umunri Colloquium Committee and the 2018 Enugwu Ukwu Igu- Aro Commission said the cancellation is as a result of ‘unforeseen development’.

Insiders and some Enugwu-Ukwu stakeholders however told the ABS that the cancellation is a show and mark of respect to their fallen compatriot, former President General (PG) of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU), and current Chairman of Enugwu-Ukwu Igu-Aro Commission, late Chief P.J.C Nwokafor (Enyi Enugwu-Ukwu na Umunri) who died on Thursday, December 27, 2018.

In a related development, Enugwu-Ukwu community also cancelled its National Patrons Dinner which was to hold on Thursday, December 27, 2018. In a statement by Comrade Bonny Ozo Nkwuaku, President General of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU), it said, “In view of the current mood in the town concerning the sudden death of one of our National Patrons and a Cabinet Chief in the person of Chief P.J. C Nwokafor today, we regret to inform you that the National Patrons Dinner earlier planned for this evening at the Civic Centre has been cancelled”.

Continuing, the message said the cancellation followed “a decision reached by the College of National Patrons and ECDU at a brief meeting held at the Residence of Engr. Sir Chris Okoye”.
