Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, ASPHCDA, in partnership with UNICEF recently organized a four dayworkshop for stakeholders in Primary Healthcare (PHC) in the state.

The workshop  held in Enugu, was aimed at developing
regulations to guide the Agency.

The Board Chairman, ASPHCDA, Dr Sunny Ekwunife said the regulatory
document would be a guideline for the Agency, noting that the regulation would also help the Agency synchronise operations with the local government health system.

Dr. Ekwunife commended the Development partners (UNICEF) and Anambra State
Government for the great effort and support towards the success of the
Agency.

The Executive Secretary, of the ageyncy, Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu, explained that the
Agency’s law was signed into law by Gov. Willie Obiano in 2015.

She observed that after the workshop, the Agency would have
a working document on regulations that would guide their operation as according to her, every aspect of the Agency’s law has been spelt out in the regulation document.

Dr Ezenyimulu said they are still going to be working in consonance with Local
Government Chairmen, Supervisory Counselors for Health, Ward
Development Committees, Traditional Rulers and President Generals of
each LGA adding that they were all necessary for community
engagement and acceptability which was the core principle of Primary
Healthcare delivery.

She urged the participants at the workshop to have an open mind in the
development of regulations.

The Head, Department of Health, Oyi LGA, Esther Nebeife
observed that with regulation, the different health cadres in the Primary Healthcare
setting would know their limits in the service.

According to her, it will also spell out the Dos and Don’ts in Primary Healthcare practice.

Nebeife thanked the organisers of the workshop and prayed the
regulation be put in practice for Primary Healthcare sector to achieve optimal
healthcare to all Ndi Anambra.

Stakeholders present at the workshop include Chairman Local Government
Services Commission, Dr Peter Egenti, representatives of ALGON
Chairman, the State Attorney-General, HODs of the twenty one Local Government Areas and HODs of ASPHCDA.
