Drugs and medical equipment worth over one billion naira have been donated for use at Umueri General Hospital by Umueri people living in the United States of America under the auspices of Umueri America Heritage Foundation USA.
The drugs covers medications for different kinds of illness while equipment for surgry and other hospital materials were among the equipment.
Presenting the items at the Palace of the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Sir Benneth Emeka, the coordinator Dr. Peter Nnaemeka from Orgbu Umueri said they donated the drugs and the equipment for use at Umueri General Hospital for primary health care services to meet the health
care of the people of Umueri and beyond.
Dr Nnaemeka stated that they want to copy models around the world and to ensure that good medications and good services are given at the hospital with credible results, urging people to avail themselves the opportunity and visit the hospital to benefit from the drugs.
The President Umueri America Heritage Foundation USA, Chief Pius Uwalor said they saw it as a challenge to have a functional general hospital at Umueri for their people and others.
Chief Uwalor who is also from Ikenga Umueri said they want their people to enjoy standard drugs and maintain good health, and most importantly, complement the efforts of the state government in the Health Sector.
Receiving the items, the traditional ruler of Umueri Igwe Emeka appreciated donors for keying into Governor Willie Obiano’s think home philosophy by equipping the Umueri General Hospital with standard hospital equipment and drugs for quality health care services, noting that they have been assisting in putting up other developmental projects in Umueri.
Igwe Emeka called on Ndi Umueri and other communities to benefit from the kind gesture and assured of full monitoring of the usage of the items.
In a vote of thanks, the Doctor in charge of the hospital Dr Vincent Anikpe and Reverend Clem Uzuegbu thanked God and the donors for coming to their needs and promised good usage of the items for the common good of the people.
