The Trade Union Congress, TUC, Anambra State Chapter has appealed to the Federal Government to ensure that the New Minimum wage bill is passed into law.
The State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu who made the appeal during an emergency meeting of the Union in Awka, said that the meeting was called to sensitize their members on the impending strike should the federal government fail to do the needful about the
new minimum wage.
Comrade Okechukwu who noted that it is regrettable that the federal government has not been able to send the bill to the National Assembly for consideration, maintained that the thirty thousand naira minimum wage is not enough, owing to the current harsh economy of the country.
The state TUC boss made it clear that some Governors are ready to pay the new minimum wage, but could not due to the federal government’s inability to send the bill to the National Assembly adding that Nigerian workers have suffered enough and cannot fold their hands and die of hunger amidst plenty.
He therefore urged their members in Anambra state to remain steadfast as the union will continue to protect their interest at all times.
