Usbon Football Club over the weekend won the gold cup of Konti Football League with a cash price of three hundred thousand naira having beaten their rival Suleja Football Club three goals to one in a penalty shootout.

The first runner up with the silver cup was Suleja Football Club which clinched two hundred thousand naira while the second runner up, Nkwele Football Club, lifted the bronze cup having defeated the Mgbuke team winning a cash prize of one hundred thousand naira.

The Konti Football tournament which has lasted for three years and held at Umunnachi Stadium, featured masquerade display, performance by music artist as well as other side attractions.

In his speech, the sole initiator, donor and sponsor of the Konti cup, Engineer Emeka Okonkwo while expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the teams during the tournament noted that his overall aim was to encourage the youths who are talented in soccer to develop their career which according to him will attract more development and unity to their town.

He further advised the teams who lost out in the tournament to improve as next year’s Konti cup will be better and attractive.

In a remark, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Media Affairs and chairman, Nnachi Football Association, Sir Emeka Odionu noted that Konti cup has been of great positive impact to Umunnachi community and called on other well meaning Ndi Anambra to invest in sports development through grassroots football as it will help improve the economic growth and development of the state and Nigeria at large.

On his part, the President General of Umunnachi Progressive Union, Mr Ikechukwu Odionu who decried the level of sporting activities in the state called on both Government and private individuals to create more employment and increase revenue through sports.

The Konti cup which ended with so much excitement produced Chijioke Aniagboso of Usbon Football Club as the best goal keeper, Chidi Onyeka of Nkwele Football Club as the most valuable player of the tournament and Nicholas Godwin of same Nkwele Football Club as the highest goal
scorer.
