The Federal Government is set to arraign the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen on charges of non-declaration of assets before the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja.
A statement from the Code of Conduct Tribunal headquarters in Abuja said a three-man panel of the tribunal led by Justice Danladi Umar, fixed Monday for the arraignment of Nigeria’s number one judge, following an application by the Code of Conduct Bureau for leave to commence the case.
He said the application was filed last Friday and summons for the Monday’s proceedings had been served on the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
All the six counts preferred against the Chief Justice of Nigeria are said to be bordering on non-declaration of assets.
Justice Onnoghen whose appointment suffered unprecedented delay by President Muhammadu Buhari over undisclosed issues may be the first Chief Justice of Nigeria to be arraigned for criminal charges by the Federal Government.
It was gathered that eminent lawyers have volunteered to put their services at the disposal of Justice Onnoghen in a bid to rescue him from the claws of the government.
