Governor Willie Obiano has urged Ndi Anambra to come out en masse and vote during the forthcoming general elections on February and March, 2019.
Governor Obiano made the call during the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC interactive session with the state traditional rulers at the Traditional Rulers Council Chambers, Government House Awka.
The Governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties and Continuous Voters Registration, CVR, Dr Amaka Akudo implored the traditional rulers in the state to ensure that all
registered voters in their domain collect their permanent voters’ card, PVC at INEC offices in all the twenty one local government areas in the state.
The Governor also announced that in the just concluded Voters Registration exercise conducted by INEC, Anambra State has emerged the first in the South East with a total of two million, four hundred and forty seven, thousand, nine hundred and ninety six registered voters, and eleventh position out of the thirty six states in the federation.
In an address, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, who that PVC collection has remained a major challenge in the state, charged every eligible voter to ensure that they collect their PVC before February eight 2019.
Dr Nkwachukwu, who also assured that efficient equipment will be made accessible for smooth running of the upcoming election, stressed the readiness of the Commission to ensure free and smooth election.
In a speech, the Chairman Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe, Afred Achebe, of Onitsha represented by the traditional ruler of Okpuno, Igwe Sunday Okafor, called on Ndi-Anambra to vote for the right people in the upcoming elections who will foster better
development and provide job opportunities.
In their remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Barrister Vera Okonkwo and the Secretary, state Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Pius Omachonu, who warned INEC to reject vote buying and under aged voting, commended the state traditional rulers for working assiduously towards the upcoming general elections,
Questions from different traditional rulers on various issues including vote buying, security challenge, PVC rejection while voting, lost of PVC among others were some of the issues that were tackled during the session.
