Construction work on the Ukwuoji Awka-Umuelechi-Nibo-Isiagu road is in progress.

Works Correspondent Ngozi Obileri monitored pace of work on the road and reports that a journey from Isiagu to Nibo seems to be easy now following massive construction work on going at the Ukwuoji Awka -Umuelechi Nibo-Isiagu by the state government.

The contract awarded to an indigenous contractor J Quarison, who hails from Nibo Community, in Awka South Council Area, commenced in earnest three weeks ago with earth work from Isiagu axis of the road to Ifite Nibo.

So far, a four cell box culvert has been constructed on the Obibia river and another two cell box culvert completed on the Okpalayam River at the Isiagu axis.

According the project Supervisor, Engineer Alexander Ihedioha, the road will also have two one cell box culverts at different locations.

Mr Ihedioha explained that the terrain of the road around the Obibia axis is a difficult coupled with the erosion menace on parts of the road which was a major reason why work on the road will take up to three months before completion .

He commended Governor Willie Obiano for prompt release of fund which enabled them mobilise to site with all their equipment ,men and materials, expressing optimism that they will deliver according to specification.

Some residents of the area including Messrs Benaice Okoye and Ijeoma Nnamani who expressed gratitude to state government for remembering them, lamented their plight on the road before, and pledged their unalloyed support to the present administration.

When completed, the project will open up road to farms at Nibo and Isiagu communities where many farm produce are harvested in large quantities, thereby giving farmers in the area value for all their efforts.
