Residents of Odo Rubber by Deeper Life street, Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area, have decried lack of power supply in the area for the past one year.

Speaking during a peaceful protest to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, office in Ogbaru, the leader of the community, Igwe Cyril Anochili Ogbuagu narrated how the existing transformer, donated by Princess Chinwe Nwabili was removed by the EEDC, for repairs because it broke down due to overload but till date, has not be returned in spite of numerous times they went to EEDC office to request for the restoration of the transformer.

Adding their voices, Sir Onyeoziri Chukwuemeka recounted how the Odo Rubber Community have been repairing the transformer without delay before the EEDC came and took it for repairs for more than one year and appealed to the state government and their representatives to come to their rescue while Mrs. Chinasa Ilechukwu regretted the losses they have suffered in their businesses due to the blackout.

Addressing the press after the community’s representative interaction with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Igwe Ogbuagu said they were given assurances by the EEDC that the transformer will be restored in a week’s time but still pleaded for government intervention as the old transformer was carrying excess load before it broke down.

Meanwhile, the Head of Communications, EEDC Enugu, Mr. Emeka Eze in his reaction, said the transformer, failed sometime last year and was moved to their workshop for repairs which has been completed assuring that it will soon be returned.

The Odo rubber residents marched through the Atani-Odekpe road with placards with different inscriptions such as ,”one year in darkness,” “Restore our light”, “where is our transformer”, “Government come to our rescue.” among others.
