The Central African Republic has initiated a peace deal with fourteen armed groups following two weeks of talks in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

The peace deal was announced last Saturday by the African Union but the terms were not immediately released.

The accord was initiated by President Faustin Archange Touadera for the Central African Republic government and representatives of the militias which control most of the chronically-troubled country.

According to President Touadera the Khartoum Agreement will open the door for peace to return to the country.
It would be recalled that the talks were deadlocked over disagreements on amnesty issues earlier in the week.
