The Anambra state government through the Ministry of Basic Education will tomorrow unveil the second phase of activities for the enhancement of literacy and improving reading culture in the state. Inauguration of reading hubs for communities in the state, with particular attention to educationally disadvantaged areas, as well as induction of reading ambassadors and reading champions will also form part of the ceremony scheduled to hold at the Community Education
Resource Centre Okpuno, by nine in the morning.
Other features of the event include distribution of books to public and private schools, higher institutions and community libraries.
Laptop computers will also be distributed to Education information Management System, SMIS officers,
The Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha stated that the inauguration of the community reading hubs, investiture of the ambassadors and champions are part of the international best practices emulated from the 2019 Education World Forum held in London.
The commissioner stated that the inauguration of the reading hubs in Anambra state communities is aimed at creating a forum for interaction and tracking people’s progress in reading at school and community levels.
Commissioner Omenugha who stated that Governor Willie Obiano’s programme of sustained silent reading in schools for the enhancement of literacy and improving reading culture were highly applauded at the 2019 Education World Forum, stated that the unveiling of the second phase of the literacy enhancement programme are in line with the Anambra state government’s resolve to sustain the achievements recorded so far.
Commissioner Omenugha therefore invites all education stakeholders, House of Assembly Members, School Based Management Committee, Women Organizations, Volunteer, Teachers and Education Secretaries, to be part of this flag off of Governor Obiano’s prograame of enhance reading culture.
