The visually impaired people in the state have been urged to always trust God and have positive mindset.

The Former Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam, Professor Fidelis Okafor, gave the charge during a get together of the Nigeria Association of Blind, Anambra State Chapter and the recognition of their patrons and patronesses.

The occasion which took place at Abagana, Njikoka local government area, attracted government
functionaries, the clergy, students and People Living With Disabilities, PLWDs

The occasion was a beehive of activities as some visually impaired persons exhibited huge talents and skills, such as news presentation, jokes, singing and rapping while guests testified that there is
ability in every disability.

Professor Okafor, who spoke against discrimination or seeing them as less important persons in the society, encouraged them to always wear smiling face.

In his speech, the chairman of the Association, Comrade Ernest Okamelu, noted that the celebration aimed at recognizing those who have contributed immensely to the general welfare of members of the Asociation.

Comrade Okamelu, appealed to government at all levels and good spirited individuals to come to their aide, noting that the Association is facing a lot of challenges like lack of scholarships, reading and writing materials, lack of employment to graduate members among numerous others.

In a lecture, the Principal of Dennis Memorial Grammar School, DMGS, Onitsha, Reverend Cannon Chigozie Anieto, advised them to utilize the talents and natural endowment given to them by God to maximize their potential.

In their separate speeches, the Patron of the Association, Chief Godwin Okeke, represented by his wife, Lady Pat, the Principal St. Mary’s High School Ifitedunu, Reverend Father Jude Onebunne, former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Mrs. Victoria Chikwelu, among others thanked the Legislators for passing the disability Rights Bill into law as well as Governor Willie Obiano for his numerous contributions in making sure that the general welfare of the PLWDs in the state is improved
