The Anambra State Government has resolved to establish alternative source of power generation to boost productivity across the state.
Governor Willie Obiano gave the hint when he visited Aguleri-Otu -Aguleri-Uno Oil Rig Bridge to inspect the ongoing construction work at the facility.
He disclosed that approval had been given to the contractor to produce a design on how to harness the speed of the current in the river to generate electricity.
The Governor observed that when properly harnessed it would generate electricity for Umueje in Ayamelum Council Area and surrounding communities.
He expressed satisfaction with the standard of work done by the contractor, adding that he would continue to encourage Contractors to ensure adequate service delivery.
Governor Obiano called on the people to support all APGA candidates vying for elective positions, to enable him consolidate on his achievements.
The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, said the road to the oil well was eleven kilometers. and when completed would offer speedy access to the rig within ten minutes.
He noted that it was regrettable that before the intervention of the Governor on the road, the rig was through Enugu State, noting that this slowed economic development in the state.
The Contractor handling the project, Mr. Chami Estrada, assured that the design for the power generation would guarantee steady power supply due to the wave generated in the river and re-assured that the bridge would be fully completed by March.
