The wife of the state governor Chief Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano has urged women and girls to champion the course of change in the society.

Addressing members of the Trefoil Guild of the Nigeria Girl Guides Association during their second conference held recently in Awka, Chief Dr. Obiano said that women ought to blossom positively not just in their homes, public places but also in private places to influence their environment.

The Governor’s wife who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Re- Orientation Mrs. Mitchelle Onugbolu, who is also a member of the Trefoil Guild Association, highlighted her various activities in the care of the mentally challenged at the CAFE Rehabilitation Centre Nteje.

She advised members of the Association to extend their mentoring to undergraduate girls in various institutions of higher education .

A former Governor of the state Dame Virgy Etiaba, in her remarks praised the association for their effort towards impacting positive values in the girl child despite the economic challenges in the
country.

Dame Virgy called on older women to educate girls from their life experiences as she advocated more commitment to education of the girl child.

Earlier in her keynote address, Professor Ngozi Agu, of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, listed procrastination, dependability and excuses as factors limiting the progress of the girl child.

She advised girls to live above sexual abuse, by equipping themselves with relevant skills to meet challenges of the present times.
