The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in Anambra State , has paraded eighteen persons for abuse of drugs and possession of Cannabis sativa.
The suspects were arrested Saturday morning at nine o’clock in a Developing Quarter along Kwata area of Awka following a tip off.
Speaking to the ABS, the Public Relations Officer of NDLEA, Mr. Charles Inodgie said that the mop-up exercise is part of the Agency’s measures to disarm the youths of hard drugs ahead of the elections in order not to be used as thugs as according to him hard drugs are the major contributing factor to thuggery during elections.
Mr. Inodgie who revealed that sixteen suspects out of the eighteen are from the Northern part of the country and two from Anambra state called on the state residents especially parents to monitor and control their children and wards to avoid falling into wrong hands.
While expressing shocked over the age brackets of the youths found with hard drugs, the Operation Commander, Strike Force of the Agency, Mr. Sam ThankGod noted that the routine raid exercise is targeted towards the fourth coming elections to ensure that the state remains the safest place in the country and as well maintain conducive environment for all citizens, advising youths to stay out of drugs or face the full wrath of the law.
Some of the suspects, including Mustapha Aliu, Galami Adelayi from Pleatu state and Umaru Musa from Kogi state in their confessional statements, accepted being in possession of hard drugs while pleading for mercy from the relevant authorities, promising to turn a new live.
