The State Primary Healthcare Development Agency in partnership with UNICEF has trained officers in both State and Local Government Areas on nutrition and management of acute malnutrition.

The training was aimed at scaling up the treatment of malnourished children in line with National and international best practices.

It also aimed at establishing three Community Management of Acute Malnutrition centres in the State.

The four-day training took place at the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency headquarters in Awka.

Speaking during the event, the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu disclosed that Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food for treatment of acute malnutrition in children is now in use.

Dr Ezenyimulu noted that the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency received a large quantity of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food from the Federal Ministry of Health.

She urged the nutrition officers to refer children who face the risk of malnutrition, especially in the areas recently affected by flood to Community Management Acute Malnutrition centres.

She commended UNICEF for supporting the training, urging it to continue with its support in making Anambra a healthy state.

The Principal Nutrition Officer Two, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs Bayode Adenike defined malnutrition as lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough to eat or not eating enough of the right food.
