The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has reassured of their preparedness for the 2019 general elections come Saturday 16th of February.
This was made known during the 2019 General Elections Stakeholders Forum at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center Awka.
The Stakeholders forum meeting organized by INEC which is aimed at informing the public of its preparations, processes and procedures for the 2019 general elections had in attendance the Civil Society Organizations, Election Observers both national and international, Persons with Disabilities, Traditional Rulers representatives of different political parties, INEC officials, security agencies, the media and religious leaders among others.
Speaking at the event, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner INEC Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, said a total number of five million five hundred and twenty-seven thousand ninety-three permanent voter cards have been collected while a total number of one million, nine hundred and thirteen thousand, forty-four PVC’S are yet to be collected in Anambra State as at Sunday this week despite the extension for the collection of PVC.
He noted that an increase in the number of voters was established and said additional voting points and voting units have been created to accommodate the number of voters in the state, as he said that ninety-one political parties are duly registered as against forty-one political parties in the year 2015.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mustapha Dandaura who spoke on the security arrangements for the 2019 elections assured of free and conducive atmosphere for everyone participating in the election and warned against vote buying and election violence.
He gave out the numbers to call in case of emergency, on the election day as 07039194332 or 08060970639 for immediate response.
Others who spoke to the ABS included the Anambra State INEC Administrative Secretary, Mr. Charles Mbanaja, a European Union Election observer, Mr. Henrik Westabey, Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Reverend Dr Ndubisi, and the Chairman Inter-Party Advisory Council IPAC, Prince Isaac Onuka, appreciated the Commission even as they said they look forward to having free, fair and credible elections.
