The federal government says all land borders will be closed from today Friday till Sunday seventeenth for the Saturday Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Abdurrahman Dambazau, gave the directive.

A press statement issued by the Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr Muhammad Babandede, in Abuja yesterday, said that there would be restriction of movements across the Nigerian borders during the election on the days announced.

It said the public is to take note and ensure compliance. In another development, the World Poverty Clock says the number of extremely poor Nigerians has risen to ninety-one-point-six million.

According to the World Poverty Clock, this implies that virtually half of Nigeria’s population now live in extreme poverty.

The World Poverty Clock named Nigeria the poverty capital of the world last June when it revealed that Nigeria had eighty-seven million people living in poverty.

The latest figure shows that an additional four million Nigerians have since fallen under the poverty line.

The report adds that six Nigerians become poor every minute. The World Poverty Clock is a tool to monitor progress against poverty globally.
