Staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has been charged to handle election duties with sense of professionalism dedication, honesty and commitment devoid of partisanship before, during and after election.

The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi gave the charge during a one day training for all participating FRSC staff in the 2019 general elections.

The event which attracted Road Safety members within the state has its theme as “Towards Ensuring a Successful 2019 General Election: FRSC Roles and Responsibilities”.

Speaking on the roles of FRSC during election, Dr Oyeyemi who spoke through the State Sector Commander, FRSC, Corps Commander Andrew Kumapayi said that FRSC will work assiduously with relevant stakeholders to ensure that whatever safety and security threats that could hamper smooth conduct of the elections are nipped in the bud through adequate measures, advising them to work hard to overcome the challenges.

Dr Oyeyemi said that FRSC is a member of Inter-Agency Committee on Election Security, ICCES and Inter-ministerial committee on Logistic as well as Inter-ministerial Advisory Committee on Logistics for the 2019 general elections with specific responsibilities of ensuring safe and free movement of election vehicles and materials and as well as smooth electoral process.

Delivering a lecture titled,’ “Expectations of FRSC in Elections” the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji who expressed their preparedness for the election, noted that sensitive and none sensitive materials needed for the elections are ready, but regretted the fire incident that occurred on Tuesday at the INEC Headquarters in Awka that destroyed about four thousand six hundred and eighty-nine smart card readers, assuring Ndi Anambra of quick
replacement of the materials.

In their separate remarks, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mustapha Dandaura represented by Operations Officers, CSP Odumie Williams, the Director Department of State Security, Mr. Yusuf Ishiaku represented by Barrister Joseph Okechi and Deputy Corps Commander, FRSC, Mrs. Uche Chukwurah spoke on risks and threat assessment for 2019 elections, security challenges during elections, as well as roles and responsibilities of the Corps in 2019 election, and advocated synergy among security agencies throughout the elections.
