The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has revealed that a total of seventy-two million, seven hundred and seventy-five thousand, five hundred and two Nigerians have collected their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, for the General Election, representing eighty-six point six-three per cent of eligible voters.

This implies that the total number of votes across the country for the presidential election cannot be more than seventy-two million, seven hundred and seventy-five thousand, five hundred and two as only persons with PVCs can be allowed to vote on Saturday.

The commission also gave the number of uncollected voter’s cards as eleven million, two hundred and twenty-eight thousand, five hundred and eighty-two.

This implies that this number of people registered prior to the elections but did not collect their PVCS.

The people who fall in this category are ineligible to vote on Saturday’s elections.

In a related development, the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has promised automatic employment to members of the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, who “do exceptionally well during elections” as INEC ad hoc staff.

Professor Yakubu who made the promise during the commission’s daily briefing in Abuja, said that the commission values NYSC members very highly and will never joke with their welfare.
