Reports from different parts of the Anambra State confirmed large turnout of voters for the presidential and National Assembly elections yesterday. |
According
to our correspondent, at Community Primary School Amawbia Ward Two,
voting commenced as early as nine o’clock in the morning where there
were two polling booths with four voting units.
One of the voting units had an issue of the card reader which resulted to delay in voting.
At
the Aroma polling unit zero-zero-one and zero-zero-two, INEC Ad-hoc
staff were seen at about quarter past eight, setting and checking their
materials.
Meanwhile, accreditation and voting commenced simultaneously by
twenty-seven
minutes to ten o’clock in the morning at Umuzocha Hall, polling unit
005, Awka ward two in Awka South Local Government Area.
INEC Ad-hoc staff deployed to the area and election materials arrived very late.
ABS sighted only one police officer controlling the electorate as they
cast their vote in an orderly and peaceful atmosphere.
Speaking to the ABS after casting his vote, the member representing
Awka
South Constituency One in the State House of Assembly, Dr. Nnamdi
Okafor, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for
making all sensitive materials for the election available as well as the
electorate for performing their civic responsibility as law abiding
citizens
Voting in parts of Ekwusigo Local Government Area was delayed due to card reader malfunctions as voting commenced in some places as late as two-thirty pm.
At Egbema Ozubulu Ward three, Polling Unit zero-zero-two, voting started at few minutes before three o’clock pm causing voters to be apprehensive as the INEC adhoc staff were compelled to seek assistance before the SCR issue was taken care of.
The story was however different at Sick Bay Polling Units zero-zero-nine, zero-zero-one, and zero-one-two Orsumoghu, Ihiala Local Government Area where counting and collation of votes started at two o’clock.
While at Dimala Hall, Osumeyi Ward two, Polling zero-one-one and zero-one-two , Nnewi South Local Government Area, voting commenced seamlessly at eight o’clock am.
Speaking to the ABS after casting his ballot, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Senatorial Candidate for Anambra South, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu expressed a level of confidence in the process but said he will continue to monitor the process to see that INEC delivered a highly acceptable exercise.
