Governor Willie Obiano has been described as a teacher-friendly governor for his consistency and prompt payment of teachers’ salaries.

The Headmistress of Udoka Primary School, Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Concil Area, Mrs Bibian Enukorah, made the commendation during an interview with the ABS.

She noted that Governor Obiano’s humane disposition towards teachers in the state is unparalled in the annals of the state.

Mrs Enukorah, however, listed the challenges of the school to include lack of perimeter fence, water borehole and inadequate staff strength.

Speaking on inadequate staff strength, Mrs Enukorah said because of the small number of teachers in the school , most of the teachers handle more than one class thereby affecting the quality of knowledge they impact on the pupils.

Contributing, one of the teachers, Mr Jude Nwankwo, disclosed that most of the teachers have never gone for promotional examinations since they were employed, noting that some of them have stayed on one grade level for up to six to eight years.

While calling on government to send more teachers to the school, Mr Nwankwo, explained that out of the four Npower teachers sent to the school, only two come to work but not constantly.

One of the Npower teachers who refused to be identified, when asked reason for not coming to work regularly, said since she was recruited last year August, she has not been paid a dime.

She explained that transporting herself from Nawfia to Enugwu-Agidi, has been a huge challenge to her because of lack of finance, adding that she has made a lot of efforts to resolve the issue of nonpayment of salaries from Npower to no avail.

ABS observed that the school has conducive classrooms for learning but because of lack of perimeter fence around the school, the staff, pupils and school property are exposed to security risks.
