The
Anambra State Police Command has assured the state residents of
effective security during the House of Assembly election scheduled for
tomorrow.
The Commissioner for Police, Mr Rabiu Ladodo, gave the assurance during a press briefing at the state police command in Amawbia.
The Police Commissioner said the Command has reviewed its operations and mapped out strategies to address major election threats in the state including thuggery and cultism through robust inter-agency cooperation, visibility patrol, intelligence gathering and constant raid of criminal hideouts.
CP Ladodo also assured that all the four thousand six-hundred and eight, polling units in Anambra state are effectively secured, including INEC registration centers, staff and the CBN to protect election materials.
The CP on behalf of other sister agencies also reiterated their commitment towards assuring that Anambra remains the safest state and warned mischief makers to desist from their criminal intention as anyone apprehended will face the full weight of the law.
Meanwhile the Anambra State Police Command says it has arrested eighty-eight suspected cultists at different locations in the state.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr Rabiu Ladodo, disclosed this during a press conference at the Command’s Headquarters, Amawbia.
He explained that out of the eighty-eight suspects arrested, thirty-one were screened out, twenty-seven charged to court and thirty others are under investigation.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one double barrel gun, fourteen live catridges, dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, substance suspected to be cocaine concealed in a phone, two axes, one dagger, one matchets, foil and razor blade.
CP Ladodo while urging the state residents to report any suspicious persons to nearest police station appealed to Ndi Anambra to come out enmasse tomorrow to exercise their franchise, assuring them of their safety.
In an imterview one of the suspects Abuchi Okonkwo from Enugu-Ukwu, denied involvement in cultism saying he was fingered by a prison inmate whom he does not know.
