The need for qualitative upbringing of children through sound education has once again been emphasized as the only way to groom useful citizens for the country.

Stakeholders in the Education Sector harped on this during a pastoral visit by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor to St. Patrick’s College, Awka, which was also used to commemorate the Feast of the College Patron Saint.

In his Homily, Bishop Ezeokafor advised children to be serious with their studies, as it is the gateway to a better life and also live moderately during the Lenten period.

Reacting to the disparity in school fees, Bishop Ezeokafor pointed out that mission schools tend to be more expensive than federal and state schools due to lack of subventions from governments.

The State Commissioner for Health Dr Josephat Akabuike, in his speech commended mission schools for their remarkable contributions towards promoting quality education and complementing efforts of government .
Also speaking, the member representing Awka Constituency One in the State Assembly, Dr Nnamdi Okafor noted that mission schools still retain the status and glory they are known for and called on stakeholders to always extend support to them individually and collectively.

In separate addresses of welcome, the College Manager, Reverend Father Celestine Anaekwe and the Senior Prefect of the College, Miss Chidera Nwambam said the College has achieved much in it’s four years of existence, especially in external examinations and competitions through the unalloyed support of the Bishop and other benefactors and appealed for the provision of equipment for practical lessons and other learning materials among others.

Correspondent Kenechukwu Chukwudi reports that the event featured administration of First Holy Communion and Sacrament of Confirmation on students of the College by Bishop Ezeokafor.
