The State Government says the enforcement of the separation of gas plant from petrol stations across the State is aimed at reducing the rate of explosions in filling stations.
The Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba stated this while speaking to newsmen in Awka.
According to Commissioner Onukwuba, Governor Willie Obiano’s directive to all gas plants to relocate is because gas and fuel cannot co-exist as it pose a great danger of fire out breaks, urging all filling station proprietors, to adhere to the directive or face the full wrath of the law.
On the encroachment of some property developers into government reserved areas, the Commissioner pointed out that the Ministry of Lands will continue to sanction any defaulter who fails to keep the stipulated distance by the state government while building to allow enough space for expansion of road.
On solid waste disposal, Mr. Onukwuba, disclosed that the state government has transformed the State Waste Management Agency to work effectively and revealed that before the end of Governor Willie Obiano’s second term, all slums in the state would have been upgraded with infrastructural development.
Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Mr Amaechina Maduakonam, while lamenting the uncontrolled and haphazard siting of facilities in some cities, urged the state government to ensure that property developers comply with all relevant laws and maintain the lay down principles of town planning.
