Three Cabinet Chiefs in Obosi have been suspended indefinitely following their acts of sacrilege towards the custom and tradition of the Community.
They are Chiefs Osita Chidioka, Linus Mgbakogu and Hyacinth Udemba.
Disclosing this to newsmen, the spokesperson of Eze na Ndi Ichie Obosi, Dr Benneth Mozie, said that after a consultative meeting with relevant traditional bodies, including Obosi Development Union and Obosi Inland Land Management Council, at the Palace of the traditional ruler of Obosi Igwe Chidubem Iweka, the conduct of the three suspended Cabinet Chiefs was seen as a violation of the tradition of Obosi community which forbids Eze na Ndi Ichie from beholding any human corpse.
Dr. Mozie noted that the trio not only witnessed and observed the corpse of two bodies suspected to have been shot dead during the recent election in Obosi which were loaded in a pickup van, saying that as Chiefs Osita Chidoka and Linus Mgbakogu directed the concert,
Chief Udemba video recorded the elaborate scene as they headed to the palace of Igwe Iweka where the corpses were offloaded at Ime-obi, thereby desecrating the sacred custom of Obosi community.
He noted that the indefinite suspension of the three Chiefs is in line with the custom and tradition of Obosi as they have been stripped of their various Chieftaincy and memberships of the royal cabinet due to their sacrilegious and abominable act.
In their separate reactions, some cultural proponents in Obosi, including Chief Emeka Ughamadu, Chief Mrs. Nkechi Ugochukwu, Chief Olunna Ofodile and Chief Emmanuel Aniegboka said such an act has never happened in Obosi, adding that the perpetrators must cleanse the land, or calamity
will befall the community.
Commenting on the development, a member of Igwe’s Cabinet, Chief Godwin Osakwe, Chairman Eze Shime Royal family, Chief Emmanuel Ikeji and the President-General, Obosi Development Union, Deacon Ikenna Madubosa, maintained that the tradition of Obosi must be upheld, adding that violators of the tradition must face the stipulated sanction of cleansing the land.
