Not less than two people lost their lives in a fatal accident that involved a tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, and a commercial coaster bus at the Immigration junction Agu-Awka.

On arrival at the scene, ABS observed that men of the Nigeria Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corp, Security Agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Civil Defense Corp, Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and others were on ground salvaging the situation.

Narrating what happened, an eye witness, Architect Ken Okoye, who is also a resident of the area, while lamented over the ugly incident called on the government to as a matter of urgency finish up the on-going palliative work on the road to avert future occurrences.

Another eye witness, who pleaded anonymity said there was about ten passengers in the commercial bus who sustained different degrees of injury receiving treatment at the
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka.

A visit to the hospital by the ABS proved abortive as management of the hospital refused the press access to the victims.

Confirming the accident, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Ladod and the State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corp, Mr. Ayodele Kumapayi adviced drivers to be vigilant and apply caution while plying the road.

They also thanked the State Government for empowering the agencies adequately to Carry out their functions effectively.

Also at the Scene of the fire were the MD/CEO ACTDA, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa, the SSA to the Governor on SEMA, Anthony Achebe, and the Chairman Petroleum Association of Nigeria, Anambra state chapter, Chief Osita Obi-Okafor.
