Mother’s Sunday is a day Mothers are recognized for their roles and duties in the society more especially in their families.

Their husbands and Children use the day to encourage, shower lover, prayers and present gifts to their mothers, a sign of honour and respect to motherhood.

Speaking on the significance of the day, the Wife of the Bishop of Ogbaru Anglican Diocese, Mrs. Uche Amah said it is a period of evangelism in remembering that Christ died for mankind and reaching out to the orphans and extend love to others in need .

Mrs. Amah asked mothers to remain committed in building up their children especially the girl child , teaching them the dangers of pre-marital sexual activities and to be prayerful at all times to ensure that the family stands.

While encouraging women who are bread winners of their families, the Bishop’s wife reminded them that they should remain submissive to their husbands and charged the husbands to pay more attention to their families and assist their wives so as to raise up godly children for a better society.

For the former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budgets in the state, Professor Stella Okunna, motherhood is a vocation and duty bestowed on women by God, stating that they should not shy away from their responsibility rather rise to the challenge of taking care of their families and called on fathers to assist their wives in making a good family.

Professor Okunna lamented the increasing rate of abuses of the girl child in the society, urging any one molested to make appropriate report to bring the perpetrators to book, even as she called on mothers to live exemplary life for their wards.
