Mothers have been called upon to scale up their role of nation building.

The wife of the state Governor, Chief Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano made the call during an event at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, organized in commemoration of this year’s Mothers Sunday.

Dr. Mrs. Obiano, represented by the Deputy Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Lady Pat Ofia blamed mothers who fail in their motherly role of positive reshaping of the society, for the ills in today’s society, and asked them to see this period as a moment for
sober reflection and amendment.

She further called on mothers to always pray for their families, impart positive knowledge in their children through exemplary life, as well as show equal love and care to their children and wards for enthronement of better society.

Describing Mothers as pillars of human world, the Chairman on the occasion, Mr. Ikenna Ezendu, and the Administrator of St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, Reverend Father Matthew Atansi encouraged mothers to always emulate Virgin Mary the mother of Christ, who cared for all while on earth, and to correct their children through beating when necessary, as according to him the waywardness and bad behaviours of present day children are caused by the inability of their parents to punish them when they go wrong, unlike mothers of the old.

In an address, the Head of the Catholic Women Organization, Mrs. May Atah thanked God for allowing them to witness this year’s event, and promised on behalf of the women to make amend where necessary and turn better mothers to their families and the society at large.
