Governor Willie Obiano has commissioned the Grand Cereals fish feed plant at Harbour Industrial Layout Atani Road, Okpoko.
Commissioning the facility, Governor Obiano said the plant will boost fish farming and help in growing the economy.
Commissioning, the two thousand, five hundred capacity facility initiated in 2015, the Governor observed that the citing of the industry is in line with the two pillars of his development blue print of Industrialization and Agriculture.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobe Governor Obiano while calling for its expansion noted that the facility has added to the state economy even as he assured to work closely with the industry to achieve the desire goals.
He said Industrialize is a major component of trade and commerce, pointing out that the present administration is strategizing on food sufficiency across the three Senatorial Zones in the state.
Earlier in an address, the Deputy Managing Director, San-Jeev Jain said the industries had over the year’s record strides in encouraging the development of aquaculture practices in the country.
He explained that plans are underway with various state ministries of Agriculture in exploring avenues to grow the agriculture value chain with focus on poultry and aquaculture assuring that the industry will contribute its quota towards the development of agriculture.
In a remark, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Afam Mbanefo, who noted that technology, has boosted aquaculture farming, reassured of collaboration and partnership with the industry in driving agric development value chain in the state and explained that the Ministry has initiated measures through the establishment of farm Information System in Otuocha, Anambra East Council Area.
In his speech, the Managing Director Fisheries and Aquaculture Business Development Agency, Mr Emeka Iloghalu, noted that over seventy percent of fish production is expanded through feeding, underscoring the essence of actualizing the plant project in expanding fish production to neighboring states.
Cutting of tape, unveiling of epitaph and inspecting of facilities featured, while cultural dance entertained the guests.
