More communities have receive start up funds for projects under the Community and Social Development Project, CSDP.

The project anchored by the Anambra Community and Social Development Agency, World Bank-Assisted is targeted at helping pro-poor communities in the state identify the project of their needs and successfully execute them.

New communities that received the startup funds include Nanka, Omogho and Ndikelionwu all in Orumba North local government area making it eight out of the ten communities selected across the first five benefiting Local Government Areas.

According to the terms of the project, each of the communities is expected to identify projects within a ten million naira benchmark, cost the project and make a ten percent counterpart funding while the State Government through the CSDA and World Bank pays for the remaining ninety percent. The Community is also expected to successfully execute the project.

It is as a result of this that the Anambra CSDA paid a visit to the communities to issue cheques for thirty percent of the total cost of the first of the two projects selected by each community.

Nanka community selected a health centre at Ubaha village of the community, and fencing of a primary school; Omogho community chose Corps Members’ Lodge and Rehabilitation of their failed transformer; while Ndikelionwu community went for the reconstruction of Okpunifite
feeder road and renovation of a classroom block.

The General Manager, Anambra Community and Social Development Agency, Mr. Chudi Muojekwu provided more insights to the purposes and modalities of the project.

The Transition Committee Chairman for Orumba North Local Government Area, Mrs. Ify Obinabo represented by her Vice and President General, Nanka Patriotic Union, Chief Bernard Onyekwe praised the initiative, explaining that it will help the communities take care of their
immediate developmental needs and assured their commitments towards ensuring that all the projects are delivered on time and within specifications.

Also speaking, the Traditional rulers of the communities visited including Eze Professor Chukwuemeka Ike of Ndikelionwu, Igwe Ambassador Godwin Ezeilo of Nanka and Igwe Ralphael Offor of Omogho noted that the projects midwifed by the Obiano led administration have brought governance and development nearer to the people.

Signing of the terms of agreement by the communities through their Chairmen on Community Project Management Committees supported by the Presidents General of the communities and the handing over of the cheques featured at the visit.
