The Federal Government has ordered foreign miners to quit mining sites in Zamfara State and its environs with immediate effect.

It also announced the suspension of mining activities in that State so as to curtail the activities of the armed banditry that have been terrorizing the people of the area.

Briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa Abuja, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, said that any foreign miner that continues mining activities will have his license revoked.

According to Mr Adamu, there was a nexus between activities of the bandits and illicit miners, adding that a combined team of security forces will be dispatched to the area.

The press briefing was attended by Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Abba Kyari; Director-General, Department of State Services, Mr Yusuf Bichi and Director-General National Intelligence Agency, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar.
